Update: On Aug. 20, 2020, the Small Business Association (SBA), which administers the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), released data updated through Aug. 8, 2020, intended to more accurately reflect completed PPP loans. The new information now excludes loans that were canceled by an applicant, in order to provide a more accurate picture of who actually received funds.

It also should be noted that demographics and jobs retained information was voluntarily submitted by PPP loan applicants and may not be an accurate reflection of the true statistics. As part of the loan forgiveness process, applicants will have to provide detailed demographic information to help the SBA have a better understanding of which small businesses have benefitted from PPP loans.

Curious to know which businesses in your community received government aid during the coronavirus pandemic? One way is to use Forbes Advisor’s in-depth tool to search for all Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans of $1 million or more. Customize your search and filter by state, industry, jobs retained, or business name.

As of June 30, 2020, the Small Business Administration (SBA) processed 4,885,388 loans worth nearly $522 billion. More than 5,400 lenders have participated in the program. According to SBA data, these loans have helped support approximately 51 million jobs. The average loan size was $107,000, and 86.5% of all loans were for less than $150,000.

Although the initial deadline to apply for a PPP loan was June 30, Congress extended the deadline and lenders resumed taking applications July 6. The new deadline for submitting an application is Aug. 8. The current SBA data is subject to change based on this extended loan period and/or any other adjustments made.

Our sister company, Forbes Media was approved to receive between $5 million and $10 million in PPP funds, according to SBA data.

How credit cards work ?

The idea behind credit cards is simple: When you use a credit card, you are borrowing money to pay for something. Later on, you must repay what your borrowed. If you take time to pay it back (rather than pay it in full when your credit card statement comes), you’ll be charged interest. The whole credit cards industry rests on this basic premise.

What's the difference between Visa and Mastercard?

This is one of the most common questions about credit card companies. Just about every place that takes credit cards takes both Visa and Mastercard, with only a couple of exceptions (such as Visa-only Costco), so consumers are left wondering whether there’s a difference at all.

The most important thing to remember is that neither Visa nor Mastercard issues credit cards. These companies are just payment networks that process transactions. Most of the benefits that come with a card are provided by the card issuer, not the network. And since their acceptance rates are nearly identical, you’re better off focusing on the features of individual cards rather than which network they operate on.
